On November 13, at the Hilton Baku Hotel, the "Consultation Meeting of Europe’s Major Groups and Stakeholders" was held within the framework of the “Green Week” project.

Representatives of non-governmental organizations and youth associations from Azerbaijan and foreign countries attended the event.
During the meeting, Sebastian Duyk, the Regional Representative for Europe of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), provided information about the “Rio+20” meeting. He stated that discussions at that meeting focused on the connections between human rights and environmental protection.

Artur Dahl, a member of UNEP’s International Governance Advisory Group, noted that environmental protection is not possible solely through projects implemented by states and international organizations. “The involvement of civil society in this field should be one of the main topics of discussion. Working with civil society is very important for UNEP,” he stated. A. Dahl said that the organization he represents prioritizes cooperation with civil society in all its projects. If states collaborate with various groups within civil society, they can achieve greater success in environmental protection.

At the event, information was provided about UNEP’s various upcoming projects and plans, and discussions were held on building a “green economy.”

It should be noted that the consultation meeting aimed to facilitate cooperation between Major Groups and Stakeholders and UNEP’s regional offices in the development and implementation of policies addressing various environmental issues. At the same time, the meeting is organized to discuss ways to build a “green economy,” address existing challenges in this field, and prepare proposals.

“Green Week” is a joint project of the IDEA campaign, implemented on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
