On April 23, a large-scale tree-planting campaign of nectar-producing trees was held in the Samukh district within the framework of the “Nationwide Greening Marathon” (“Green Marathon”), initiated by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva.

During the campaign, organized jointly by the IDEA Public Union and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources with the participation of volunteer youth, a total of 2000 nectar-producing trees — including maple, acacia, paulownia, and evodia species — were planted.

The action organized under the “Green Marathon” project also holds significant importance as a contribution to the IDEA Public Union’s project supporting the development of eco-entrepreneurship in the country. The goal of the mentioned project is to increase the habitat of bees — the protectors of biodiversity — in Azerbaijan and, at the same time, support the development of beekeeping in the country.

It is known that considering the important role of bees and other pollinators in the protection of biodiversity, beekeeping is regarded as the most environmentally safe and beneficial type of agriculture. Honey-producing bees actively participate in the pollination of plants, increasing their productivity and enhancing their sustainability. The development of the plant world and the existence of bees depend on each other. Bees and some other insects ensure not only the individual regeneration of plants but also the development of certain species by pollinating them.

Within the framework of the “Green Marathon” project, large-scale tree-planting activities will continue in other regions of our country as well.

The project partners, aiming to plant nearly 1 million trees across the country during the spring and autumn seasons, call on everyone to support this initiative and unite for the sake of a green future for our nature.
