On March 28, an event was held in Baku within the framework of the international “Earth Hour 2015” campaign. The event, supported by the IDEA Public Union, the Azerbaijan office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the “Green Baku” organization, was attended by more than 200 young people.

During the one-hour event, participants not only observed the turning off of the facade lights of large buildings located in the city center but also took part in the symbolic lighting of candles and a bicycle ride.

It should be noted that the “Earth Hour” campaign, first launched by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007, aims to draw public attention to the threats posed by climate change. Every year during the "Earth Hour" campaign, the facade lights of famous buildings in major cities are turned off for one hour at 20:30 local time, and through this symbolic action, participants promote energy conservation. Within the framework of this year’s campaign, more than one billion people around the world came together to show solidarity against climate change.

As the official country coordinator of the international “Earth Hour” campaign in Azerbaijan, the IDEA Public Union expresses its gratitude to the Heydar Aliyev Center, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Baku City Executive Authority, the Icherisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, the Binagadi District Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party, ADA University, the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the “Flame Towers” complex, Hilton Baku Hotel, JW Marriott Absheron Baku Hotel, and “Yeni Həyat Şirkətlər Qrupu” LLC for joining the “Earth Hour” campaign held in our country this year and contributing to its successful implementation.
