April 1

The International Convention for the Protection of Birds was signed on April 1, 1906, and today marks International Bird Day. The main goal of this day is to preserve the population and diversity of wild birds. International Bird Day is annually observed by UNESCO as part of the Man and the Biosphere Programme. Today, schoolchildren and bird enthusiasts prepare for the birds' migration by hanging feeders and nests in gardens and parks, repairing and rebuilding birdhouses.
