Distributed throughout the foothills and mountainous forests of Azerbaijan up to the upper border. In winter, they descend to the plains and the shores of the Caspian Sea. They are sedentary birds.
They are small, mobile, forest birds with a bushy tail. The color of most species is brownish-chestnut.
One of the smallest birds in our republic. It is almost smaller than a sparrow. The body length of males is 10.0–11.5 cm, that of females is 9.6–11.2 cm, the wingspan is 5.4–6.0 cm in males, 4.4–4.8 cm in females, and they weigh 7.5–11.5 grams. They are brown-spotted, have a bushy, erect tail. They are very mobile and have a complex body.
They nest in bushes or among tree stumps, rarely in trees. The nest is closed and spherical in shape, 2–3 m (rarely up to 5 m) above the ground. They begin breeding in April. They lay 3–9 (usually 5–7) white eggs with small red spots. They feed on insects, their larvae, and mollusks.
