A species of animal belonging to the Canidae family of the Predatory order of the Mammalia class. It is distributed in the Shirvan plain, in the Mingachevir-Ganja zone, in the Lankaran-Astara forests, in the Gazakh-Tovuz and Agstafa regions, and in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Their body length, including their 30-35 cm tail, reaches 85-95 cm. Their weight varies between 7-12 kg. Jackals are active at night. They spend the day mainly protecting themselves from large animals. They feed on small animals they hunt or on carrion. Males are larger than females. They give birth to 2-7 cubs at a time.
They live in monogamous pairs. They hunt in families.
