Western Marsh Harrier

Western marsh harrier
Сircus aeruginosus
The largest and darkest of the harriers in our country. What distinguishes this bird from other harriers is the lack of a white tail. Its total body length is 49-60 cm, and its weight is 500-700 g. The male is chestnut-brown above. The underside of the body is reddish, freckled. The head is ocher. The female is dark brown.
The species is native to Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. It is widespread in the lowlands of Azerbaijan, and in some places in the foothills. It leads a sedentary lifestyle. It settles on the banks of water bodies covered with reeds and tall grass.
It builds its nest in the jungles near water bodies, on the ground. It lays 4-6 bluish-white eggs in April. It feeds on small birds, eggs, frogs and rodents.
