Shirvan National Park

A species of animal belonging to the family of the even-toed ungulates of the class of mammals. Its historical population has remained only in the territory of the Shirvan National Park and the Korchay State Nature Reserve.
Since 2010, within the framework of the project “Protection, reintroduction and restoration of historical habitats of gazelles in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan” implemented by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, IDEA Public Union and the WWF Azerbaijan Representative Office, a total of 443 gazelles have been reintroduced to various areas, including the Ajinohur Plain, the Gobustan Plateau, the Shahdili Peninsula, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Samukh and Jabrayil regions.
A medium-sized even-toed animal. Lyre-shaped horns are found only in males. The length of the horns varies between 27-41 cm, the body length between 94-115 cm, and the shoulder height between 67-80 cm. The mass of adult individuals when alive reaches 24-33 kg, males are larger than females. The upper and sides of the body are sand-colored. The underside of the body, throat, and inner sides of the legs are white. The tip of their tails is black.
They mainly inhabit plains and hilly terrain. They live in groups. The mating season begins in autumn. Cubs are born in April-May.
