Brown Bear

Ursus arctos

Goygol National Park

A species of animal belonging to the Bear family of the Predatory order of the Mammals class. Its range in Azerbaijan covers the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, the Talysh Mountains, and the foothills.

Its body length is 1.7-2.2 m, and its mass is 100-340 kg. It has an elongated face, small eyes, and a short tail. Its fur is thick and gray. Its canine teeth are strong, and the crowns of its molars are wide and flat. This is due to the fact that its food is mixed. Its nose is well developed and it has a sense of smell. Its paws are large, strong, five-fingered, and its claws are strong and curved. Unlike other predatory mammals, bears have almost no facial expressions. They are forest animals.

Depending on the season, they feed on both plants and animals. They usually give birth to 2-3, and sometimes 5, cubs.
