A species of bird belonging to the Cormorant family of the Pelecanidae order of the Birds class. It is widespread in Azerbaijan, mainly found along rivers, lakes, reservoirs and swamps, especially on the shores of the Caspian Sea
Its body length is 90 cm, wingspan is 160 cm, and its mass reaches 3.5 kg. It has a curved beak with a long neck and a large black rump. Its color is mainly black with a greenish tint. The throat and cheeks are white. The head and neck of some large individuals are gray. Young birds are gray-brown in color and have a white belly.
