A species of bird of prey belonging to the family of the Accipitridae of the order of the Avian class. It is widespread, mainly found in forested areas.
It is a small bird of prey with short, broad wings and a long tail. Females are longer than males. The length of adult males is 29-34 cm, females are 35-41 cm, and the wingspan reaches 59-64 cm in males and 67-80 cm in females. The upper part is dark brown or grayish-brown, the lower part is reddish-brown. It has light yellow eyes.
It hunts with sudden attacks. It feeds mainly on small birds, sometimes small mammals, reptiles or large insects.
