First Ever Green Week Starts in Azerbaijan
27.10.2012The Green Week to be held from November 12 until November 16, 2012 will be launched for the first time in Baku. Along with local guests, the event was attended by the high level guests such as Regional coordinator of UNEP for partnerships, environment and health Mr. Wondy Asnake, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Huseyngulu Bagirov, representative of the Presidential Administration, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport , Vice-president of SOCAR, Chairman of "Tamiz Shahar" JSC and other officials.
Green Week started with the first ever International Youth Forum which was held in Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. The forum discussed the overall results of the RIO +20 summit which was held in June, 2012. The global 'green economy' and activities carried out in Azerbaijan and several European countries will be discussed during the second day of the event with the participation of more than 50 foreign representatives.
On November 14, environment diplomacy training will be organised at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. More than 300 youth representatives will take part in the programme planned in open lectures. A round table discussion with the participation of representatives from government agencies and international organisations will be held on the fourth day of Green Week. Green Week, organised by UNEP will be held in Azerbaijan, for the first time in the Caucasus.
