In terms of the total number of species, the flora of Azerbaijan is much richer, in contrast to other republics of the South Caucasus. The plant species found in the republic make up 66% of the total number growing in the Caucasus.

The country's fauna comprises 14,000 species of insects, 104 species of fish, 11 species of amphibians, 63 species of reptiles, 405 species of birds, and 115 species of mammals.
02.03.2024It is known that usable water resources within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan are limited and unevenly distributed. Outside the country, there are 21 million cubic meters of water reserves with an average annual volume of 36 million cubic meters.
02.03.2024Mud volcanoes are widespread across the Republic of Azerbaijan. Locally, they go by various names such as "pilpila," "yanardagh," "bozdagh," "akhtarma," "gaynarja," and more. There are over 220 mud volcanoes scattered throughout Azerbaijan, including the Absheron Peninsula, Gobustan, the southeast Shirvan plain, the Samur-Davachi plain terrane, as well as both the Absheron and Baku Archipelago. Among the largest are Galmas, Toraghay, and Big Kanizadag, many of which exhibit a cone shape. These volcanoes range in height from 20 to 400 meters, with base diameters varying from 100 to 4500 meters.

These areas include land plots, aquatic (aquatorial) zones, and the atmospheric space above them.
