Global youth environmental campaign starts

The Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva announced the launch of a new global youth environmental campaign - IDEA.

On July 12, during her speech at the Museum of Modern Art in Baku, at the opening of the photo exhibition 'Azerbaijan through the eyes of foreigners' the Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva announced a global youth campaign for environmental protection under the title 'International Dialogue on Environmental Action' (IDEA).

The campaign IDEA provides for a number of actions aimed to attract the attention of young people and the international community to environmental issues and the need to protect the environment.

Launching the campaign, Leyla Aliyeva also officially launched the first campaign - photo contest dedicated to nature and the environment in Azerbaijan. 

According to Leyla Aliyeva, the results of the photo contest will be announced on October during the exhibition of works by the contestants, which will be held at the Museum of Modern Art in Baku.

Note that issues of ecology and environmental protection in Azerbaijan has traditionally given special attention. Thus, according to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in 2010 was declared Year of the Environment, in which large-scale projects have been implemented on gardening in Absheron, forest conservation and rehabilitation, as well as for improvements in waste management and waste water, air quality and the Caspian Sea from pollution, improve the ecological situation in the oil-polluted territories in the Bay of Baku, the preservation of clean water and improve water quality, conservation and restoration of biological diversity, the development of infrastructure of national parks, etc.

Currently, the country continues to implement numerous projects including the development of alternative energy and renewable energy sources, designed to improve the ecological situation in Azerbaijan and South Caucasus.

Photo Exhibition "Azerbaijan through the eyes of foreigners" was opened at the Museum of Modern Art in Baku with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the UN Development Program. At the exhibition the visitors will present photographs taken by diplomats and foreigners working in the country and visited Azerbaijan.
