Let's Restore Greenery Campaign
04.04.2018The tree planting campaign Let's Restore Greenery has been launched in the capital, organized by the Public Association IDEA and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR), with the support of the Greenery Association of the Executive Authority of Baku City and the Executive Authority of Nizami District.
As part of the campaign, based on the conclusion of the State Examination Department of MENR on the felling of certain trees due to the danger of their further preservation, as well as in the locations where trees have already been cut down, it is planned to plant pines, acacias, cypresses, ash trees, olive trees, and other species of trees suitable for the soil and climatic conditions of Baku and Absheron.
As is known, planting poplar trees in urban areas leads to unfavorable consequences. For example, poplar trees with their weak and rapidly decaying root systems collapse onto cars, balconies, electrical wires, and gas lines during windy weather, thereby causing damage to people's property and in many cases leading to accidents. In the capital, poplar trees have even been the cause of fatal incidents.
Taking this into account, the implementation of the Let's Restore Greenery project began in Nizami District. The first tree planting event involving about 100 IDEA volunteers took place on April 4 on Ali Veliyev Street in Nizami District, during which 700 Eldar pine saplings were planted. It is worth noting that throughout April, on streets such as Elshan Suleymanov, G. Garaev, Nakhchivani, Aliagi Kyurchayli, Rustam Rustamov, Sharifli, Nasimi, B. Nuriev, I. Ismayilov, K. Balakishiev, and Sh. Mirzaev in Nizami District, as well as on Babek Avenue, where the State Examination Department of MENR has issued a conclusion on the felling of poplar, mulberry, and ash trees due to the danger of their further preservation, it is planned to plant about 1500 Eldar pine trees.
Following Nizami District, similar campaigns will be organized in other districts of Baku.
