The Campaign Keep the Coastal Areas Clean!
On September 16th, another coastal cleanup campaign took place, organized by the IDEA Public Union in partnership with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Clean City CJSC, Baku Scuba Center - the official representative of PADI in Azerbaijan, the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University, and the Azerbaijani representation of the United Nations. This event, held on the beach in the village of Shuvelan, aimed to maintain cleanliness on coastal areas, prevent the accumulation of household waste, and engage youth in marine environmental protection. This year marked the first underwater cleanup involving divers. Participants, equipped with necessary sanitation gear, delivered collected waste for processing to the solid waste sorting plant in Balakhany village.
IDEA regularly collaborates with local and international partners to conduct coastal cleanup activities along the Caspian and Kura rivers, aiming to preserve the water biodiversity of Azerbaijan and the wider region. Under the initiative of IDEA's Vice-President, H.E. Leyla Aliyeva, hundreds of volunteers work to rehabilitate coastal areas, transforming abandoned spaces into public recreational areas.
IDEA calls for collective efforts to ensure the sustainable future of the Caspian Sea's resources, protect the rich biodiversity of its shores, and maintain their suitability for use.
