IDEA Public Union and the Council on State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan have launched cooperation in the field of environmental protection and promotion of sustainable development.

With a view to create the legal basis for such cooperation, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation on 11 May 2016.  Based on the agreement, IDEA and the Council on State Support to NGOs will cooperate and implement joint projects in enhancing ecological education and awareness, promoting environmental responsibility, preservation and expansion of green spaces, encouraging recycling and efficient waste management, protection and restoration of biodiversity, and other relevant areas.

IDEA Public Union was established in 2011 by the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva with a mission to protect nature and biodiversity and to promote environmental sustainability. Over five years of its operation, IDEA has carried out major national and regional projects, organized international events, and established ties with leading national and international organizations.

The Council on State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established by a presidential decree on 13 December 2007. The Council promotes NGO activities in the area forming a new social relationship model, empowering civil society institutions, incentivizing civil initiatives and protecting national interests, and allocates funds for programs and projects of special public and social significance.
