As part of its regular education program IDEA Public Union organized seminar entitled “Ecological challenges caused by oil industry, and their solutions” on February 10-11, 2015 at the IDEA Resource Center.

Up to 40 young students and experts attended the seminar, which consisted of theoretical and practical parts.

During the theoretical part, an expert from the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) delivered a lecture on the environmental degradation posed by the oil industry at sea and briefed about the preventive measures taken by the extracting companies. Lecture also offered information on international environmental standards for oil extraction industry, Azerbaijan’s rich experience in this sphere, and global practice. First part of the seminar also featured wide-range discussions and Q&A session.

During the second phase of the seminar participants visited SOCAR Eco-Park and got acquainted with the Complex Research Laboratory of the company. Young experts were closely familiarized with the laboratory equipment and their working principles, observed the process of analysis of the samples taken from the sea and land, applied the knowledge they obtained at the theoretical part of the seminar.
